An Open Letter to Vaugn Ward, Congressional Candidate for Idaho's 1st District
Dear Vaughn,

Good afternoon.  I sent this request almost two weeks ago and have not received any kind of a reply or confirmation that the e-mail was received.  I hope you will choose to answer these questions so that I might make a decision as to whom I will support in the upcoming election.  This is an important time and I feel these are important questions that each of us must ask of candidates for Federal office.

I am eager to receive your answers to these important questions about constitutional authority.  I want nothing more than to put my full support behind a candidate that will support and defend the constitution and represent the interests of the constituents of this district.  Should I not receive an answer to these questions I will have no option but to conclude you are unable to answer them and therefor are not qualified to serve as the US Representative from our district. In either case, I will share the outcome and my decision with my neighbors and community.

Eagerly awaiting your response.

Dear Vaughn,

First let me start by saying thank you for your service to our country.  Like you, I am a veteran  and I currently have a son serving in the 4BCT, 82nd Airborne who deploys to Afghanistan today and another son who we expect will attend the University of Idaho with an Army ROTC scholarship next year.  You might say we believe in serving our country.

I like the things I see on your website and I hope they are truly your stance.  Like so many, I am very frustrated with the direction our government has been heading for so many years.  It is particularly scary now that Obama has accelerated the advance towards total socialist control.  This past week I attended the Walt Minnick town hall which was very disturbing.  He is unwilling to say with any absolution that government should not run health care and he supports Nancy Pelosi.  I have a complete video of the entire town hall meeting to substantiate that.

That being said, I am obviously looking for a candidate who is willing to follow the oath to protect and defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.  Before I can put my full support behind any candidate, there are a few questions that I would like to ask and have answered.

1.      What is the proper role of government?
2.      What is the proper distribution of powers between federal and state or local governments?
3.      What are the 11 powers of the President of the United States?
4.      What are the 22 powers of Congress?
5.      What is the purpose of the Supreme Court?
6.      What is the first thing a congressman or senator should do when deciding what bill to sponsor or how to vote on a bill?
7.      What is the original meaning of the "general welfare" clause?
8.      Why did the Founders give Constitutional authority for the federal government to regulate interstate commerce?
9.      Which cabinet offices have authority rooted in the powers given to Congress in the Constitution? Which of the others will you work to disband?
10.  How can Congress check the runaway power of the federal courts?
11.  When the federal government wishes to acquire land within a state, whose permission does the Constitution require be obtained? Only for what four purposes can it obtain land within any state?
12.  What standard does the Constitution require as a basis of our money system? Who is supposed to have control of the nation's monetary system?
13.  Do you believe that people's morals will affect their ability to enjoy freedom and liberty under the Constitution?
14.  You will take an oath to uphold and defend the United States Constitution, if you win this office. Do you realize that you will be held accountable before God, as well as the American People to do it?
15.  Tell me why should I vote for you?

Thank you for your time and consideration.  I will share your responses with others in my area.

Kindest regards,

Erik Nemeck

Honoring Sacrifice & Repaying Debts
I really don’t care if everyone remembers what they were doing or where they were on 9-11-2001. I think it is more important that we remember we were attacked without provocation by islamic terrorists. They attacked because they do not value life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness. They wanted to destroy our way of life. They still do. Islam is not a religion of peace despite what the media and apologists would have you believe. I will defend anyone's right to practice their religion as long as their religion does not harm or impede anyone's ability to practice their religion. I do not believe the islamic religion falls into that category.

Here it is eight years later and there has not been a single attack on our soil. Why you ask? Because rough men stand ready to do harm on our behalf. We have brought the fight to the enemy. I for one would rather fight the enemy over there rather than over here.  And yes I know something about that as my oldest son is over there as I write this. If our enemy, radical Islamic terrorists, were reasonable men things might be different. So, until the time that this enemy can be defeated I am afraid this is how things will be.

I am thankful, for those warriors who have chosen to serve our country and defend our way of life. I am ever grateful to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedom. I don’t know that it is a debt that can be repaid in any way other than doing what each of us can to maintain this country, our way of life and the freedom we so cherish.

Saying that, it is my prayer that we elect leaders that will defend the constitution of the United States of America. Political parties mean very little anymore and we MUST hold all of our elected officials accountable. We have to look at the individual and the strength of their character. We can exercise term limits by exercising our voices and our votes. Let us commit to using both this coming election cycle. By exercising our vote in such a way we are, in fact, repaying that debt. Think about that this coming election season. Stand up for your principles and be heard.

God Bless our Armed Forces and God Bless the United States of America!
