One Iraq War Vet Declares War On Hollywood
One Iraq War Vet Declares War On Hollywood
by Sgt. Welsh
Please go to this link first - click here - to understand what I’m about to rant about and why I’m so pissed.

Almost 90% of Americans believe the war in Iraq is and was a waste. The Hollywood media feeds the public wasteful, depressing, and horribly fabricated stories. When did the U.S. military become the bad-guys? We are stereotyped “Generation Kill.” I guess that is all we do. All we do is go to Iraq, hunt innocents and slaughter them. I guess that is what I did for eight months while I was there.

I guess I really didn’t save Iraqi families from being tortured by foreign jihadis. I didn’t set up the first ever Iraqi elections. Or see my brothers blown up, shot, maimed, and killed. Getting attacked from Mosques and hospitals–and you know what? We just took it, day after day we took it and we kept going. An IED blowing up underneath me each day. We couldn’t fight back; we were ordered not to. No matter how much vengeful, pent up aggression I felt, or how much I wanted to kill, I didn’t act on it. We have a code, Rules of Engagement. “RULES,” rules that are followed.

But according to then Senator and now President Obama, all I did was air-raid villages and kill innocent civilians. This is a video I will never forget:
I first saw this over at Pat Dollard.

The Assault Begins..err Continues in Ernest!
"The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or native police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order throughout the occupied Russian territories, and a system of military strong-points must be evolved to cover the entire occupied country." --Adolf Hitler, April 11, 1942

The liberals have fired the first shot of the Obamination administration and declared war over the ownership of firearms. First, they want to know who owns firearms, and then say who can own them. One thing that everyone should know and must remember is the second amendment does not exist for the purpose of hunting and sports, but rather its intent is to prevent the government from infringing on our right to own firearms.

The founding father felt this was a critical because of the oppression they face from the British government. The right of citizens to Keep and Bear Arms is one deterrent to an oppressive government.

Here are the reasons for us to be concerned.
H.R. 45, Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 if passed, the bill would make it illegal to own or possess a "qualifying firearm" – defined as any handgun or any semiautomatic firearm that takes an ammunition clip – without a "Blair Holt" license.

To obtain a "Blair Holt" license, an application must be made that includes a photo, address, all previous aliases, thumb print, completion of a written firearm safety test, release of mental health records to the attorney general and a fee not to exceed $25.
Additionally, it would give the Attorney General total say over gun ownership and the ability to ban guns at will.
The bill makes it illegal to transfer ownership of a qualifying firearm to anyone who is not a licensed gun dealer or collector. Exceptions to this rule include transfer to family members by gift or bequest and loans, not to exceed 30 days, of a firearm for lawful purposes "between persons who are personally known to each other."

The bill also requires qualifying firearm owners to report all transfers to the attorney general's database. It would also be illegal for a licensed gun owner to fail to record a gun loss or theft within 72 hours or fail to report a change of address within 60 days.

Economy Out of Control
The government continues to spin/spend out of control. The Fed continues to print money like it grows on trees and the President (Bush & Obama) and Congress is spending it like there is no tomorrow. Something has to be done. It is time for everyone to put a stop to this. Please read the U.S. Constitution, get involved, and let's force a change in direction. I'm not sure we can last another year let alone four more years of this kind of irresponsible action.

It is time to reclaim our country! I served our country to prevent the soviet communists from taking over and I do not want to fall any further into socialism. Let's turn this tide of liberal socialist tyranny and get back to the sure foundation this country was built on.

Just the way it was on 9/11
Finally, someone not afraid to tell it like it is. My hat is off to those involved in making this film.

With “Taken,” Hollywood Inches Closer to Melting “Thou Must Whitewash Islam” Rule
by Debbie Schlussel
With “Taken” debuting at the box office today, we’re inching closer to the melting of the post-9/11 “Thou Must Whitewash Islam” commandment.

Since 9/11, Hollywood is taken with the politically correct idea that they’re not allowed to portray Muslims as terrorists, or when they do, it’s to glorify the terrorists and justify their behavior–that America deserves it and made them do it. Or–a la “24″–that Muslim terrorists are always working for the American White man. Instead, Hollywood, post-9/11, made terrorists and hijackers, everyone BUT Muslims. There were Black Men with AIDS from Africa (”The Interpreter“), Federal Air Marshals and airline stewardesses, er . . . “flight attendants” (”Flight Plan,” exec produced by my uber-leftist cousin, Charles J.D. Schlissel), White Christians (a number of movies and TV shows) and everyone else you can think of . . . except Muslims, who make up the majority of real-life terrorists plotting against America today.

Defective Body Armor
Over the past few years there has been a great debate about body armor. There are many who feel the Interceptor body armor is not as effective as Dragon Skin. Read here, here, and here.
Army Orders Recall of Body Armor
Jan 28 11:34 PM US/Eastern
By RICHARD LARDNER
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Army Secretary Pete Geren has ordered the recall of more than 16,000 sets of body armor following an audit that concluded the bullet-blocking plates in the vests failed testing and may not provide soldiers with adequate protection.

The audit by the office of the Defense Department inspector general, not yet made public but obtained by The Associated Press, faults the Army for flawed testing procedures before awarding a contract for the armor.

In a letter date Jan. 27 to Acting Inspector General Gordon Heddell, Geren said he did not agree that the plates failed the testing or that soldiers were issued deficient gear. He said his opinion was backed by the Pentagon's top testing director.

Despite his insistence that the armor was not deficient, Geren said he was recalling the sets as a precaution.

"To ensure there can be no question regarding the effectiveness of every soldier's body armor, I have today ordered that the plates at issue be identified and collected until such a time as the matter has been adjudicated by the deputy secretary of defense," Geren wrote.

Al Arabiya Unintentionally Confirms Hamas Dirty Tricks
Gaza reporter caught on tape confirming Hamas fired rockets near TV offices
By Yoav Stern, Haaretz Correspondent

Footage of a presenter on the Arabic language television station Al-Arabiya apparently confirms that Hamas fired at least one rocket from close to a building used by journalists during the 22-day conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The Israel Defense Forces shelled the building, drawing international condemnation, and television networks with offices in the building denied that rockets had been launched from anywhere nearby.

But the recording, filmed by an Israeli and released Tuesday by Israel's Foreign Ministry, shows Al-Arabiya presenter Hanan Al-Masri saying that a Grad rocket had been fired from a location near the studios at Al-Shuruk tower in Gaza City. Al-Masri did not realize that she had been caught on camera.

Al-Masri, a Gaza resident, has been a reporter for Al-Arabiya for three years. She is filmed discussing other issues until she is apparently distracted by the firing.

"...A rocket from here? It's here," she says and turns to look at a window. "Listen, it's here, below the building..."

The production team tells Al-Masri that a rocket has been fired from a nearby location. She then calls someone and says: "The rocket that was just fired from here is a Grad?... It's as if it was fired from beneath the office. It was very loud. I thought it was bombing but it was a rocket launch."

The Foreign Ministry says the film is proof that Hamas had fired from the area of the studios.

Although the movie was filmed in one of the first days of Israel's 22-day offensive in Gaza, and Al-Shuruk tower was bombed only towards the end of the war, the Foreign Ministry views it as proof that Hamas did not refrain from launching rockets close to members of the media, and perhaps even fired near them in a bid to draw Israel into bombing the building.

Obama's First Interview - Al-Arabiya TV
Obama chose to give his first interview, 27-JAN-09, to Al-Arabiya TV, an organization that has been a propagandist for the Islamo-Fascists that we have been fighting.

A few observations.
  1. Another Neville Chamberlain who thinks everyting can be negotiated around a table.
  2. Why does he apologize for the United States making demands? That is all the Islamo-Fascists countries in the middle east do.
  3. Notice on video #2 at 1:10 he talks about his "muslim" background, why didn't he talk about it during the campaign?
  4. Notice the interviewers' concern for a "paradigm" shift in diplomacy. This is codespeak for "not taking Israels side." The muslim world is looking for a point of weakness in regards to Israel. They will jump all over Israel if they feel we will do nothing.
  5. The United States CANNOT fix the Palestinian problem. Only the Palestinians, who are not really Palestinians can solve their problem.
  6. Why must we use careful language? Power is not derived by using pretty language to appease Islamo-Fascists.
  7. Why can't we use faith as a reason for fighting Islamo-Fascists? They are hell bent on world dominations and have no desire to live peacably with other religions. There is nothing wrong with fighting to protect our families, our homes, our liberty, our country, or our faith!
  8. Why does he say "Iran's past support of terrorist organizations. What about Iran's current support of Hamas and Hezbollah?

The NFL Sticks It To The Troops
Word of mouth goes fast across the blogosphere.

You can read here, here, and here about how the NFL is refusing to let the Military Color Guard for the Super Bowl have seats for the game. It has been common practice for several years for the military color guard to remain and enjoy the game after the presentation of the colors. It looks like the disrespect of the troops is starting with the change in the political atmosphere.

Update: It seems a lot of people have made some phone calls. The NFL has changed their mind. Read here and here.

The Suckage Begins...
Okay, we're two days into Hussein Obama's presidency and the suckage grows.

1. Obama is already trying to screw the veterans. They say it won't effect the GI Bill. I'll believe it when I see it.

Freeze on Bush rules won’t delay GI Bill
President Obama’s government-wide freeze on implementing regulations prepared by the Bush administration will not delay work on rules covering the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Veterans Affairs Department officials said Thursday.

After months of negotiation with Bush administration regulators at the White House Office of Management and Budget, VA published proposed rules for the benefits program Dec. 23. It is accepting comments through tomorrow that will be used in preparing final regulations.

The new GI Bill program, which promises to cover full tuition at a four-year public college or university plus living and book allowances, takes effect Aug. 1.

VA spokesman Steve Westerfeld said the freeze on regulations ordered by Obama on Tuesday, his first day in office, prevents the publication of proposed rules and halts issuance of final rules — but it does not delay work on the GI Bill rules, which are “proposed” in their current form and are not yet final.
2. Obama has now granted the terrorist at Gitmo protection under the Geneva Convention. Forget that the convention defines combatants as:
Convention I offers protections to wounded combatants, who are defined as members of the armed forces of a party to an international conflict, members of militias or volunteer corps including members of organized resistance movements as long as they have a well-defined chain of command, are clearly distinguishable from the civilian population, carry their arms openly, and obey the laws of war. (Convention I, Art. 13, Sec. 1 and Sec. 2)
30% of the islamo-fascists that have been released from Gitmo have been recaptured on the battlefield. Duh.

3. The Senate has let us down by Recommending Geithner as secretary of the Treasury. kudos' to those who voted nay. Particularly disappointing is Senator Orin Hatchs' affirmative vote and comments. They have approved an admitted tax evader and incompetent financier to run the treasury.

Panel votes 18-5 to approve Geithner
The Senate Finance Committee on Thursday approved the nomination of Timothy Geithner as secretary of the Treasury on an 18-5 vote, despite lingering doubts from Republicans on the panel over irregularities in the nominee's tax records.

I'll post more tomorrow.

Bush's Real Sin Was Winning in Iraq

In a few hours, George W. Bush will walk out of the Oval Office for the last time as president. As he leaves, he carries with him the near-universal opprobrium of the permanent class that inhabits our nation's capital. Yet perhaps the most important reason for this unpopularity is the one least commented on.

Here's a hint: It's not because of his failures. To the contrary, Mr. Bush's disfavor in Washington owes more to his greatest success. Simply put, there are those who will never forgive Mr. Bush for not losing a war they had all declared unwinnable.

Here in the afterglow of the turnaround led by Gen. David Petraeus, it's easy to forget what the smart set was saying two years ago -- and how categorical they all were in their certainty. The president was a simpleton, it was agreed. Didn't he know that Iraq was a civil war, and the only answer was to get out as fast as we could?

Farewell George W. Bush
George W. Bush may not have been the perfect President, but he was a great Commander-in-Chief. He cared deeply for the men and women serving in our armed forces and chose to support them when they needed it most. He garnered the respect of the military because they knew they could count on him.

An understanding of this will be lost on those who have never served in the armed forces of the United States. Few have what it takes to be a member of the warrior breed, to be willing to sacrifice all for your country and your brothers in arms. If you chose not to write that blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for the amount of, "Up to and including my Life” you have nothing to say in this regards. This is the honor of a special brotherhood of which you are not a member and you won’t understand.

There are those celebrating George Bush’s departure from the office of President tonight. Please remember that you are able to do so because there are those who are willing to be the sheepdogs who protect this country and protect the freedoms you enjoy. George W. Bush supported our troops, I hope you will as well.

Is our country in better shape than it was eight years ago, economically the answer is no. George W. Bush made some horrible decisions that are ushering in unheard of socialism. Are we better off in regards to national defense, absolutely! There has not been a single major terrorist attack on the United States since September 11, 2001. George W. Bush has stood his watch well in that regards.

Will we be able to answer in the affirmative four years from now? I hope so.

Thank you President Bush and God Bless.

Despite its threats, Hamas put up light resistance
Before Israel invaded the Gaza Strip, Hamas vowed to turn the territory into a "graveyard" for Israeli soldiers, and the military braced for dozens of fatalities. The results were markedly different.

The Islamic militant group's fighters put up little resistance to Israel's crushing offensive, and the army—still smarting from its stalemate with Hezbollah guerrillas in their 2006 conflict in southern Lebanon—emerged relatively unscathed and more confident.

Israel wrapped up its three-week offensive over the weekend, leaving behind widespread devastation and a death toll of more than 1,250 Palestinians, according to Gaza medical officials. In contrast, Israel suffered just nine combat deaths, five of them from "friendly fire."

Bush commutes sentences of former US border agents
In his final acts of clemency, President George W. Bush on Monday commuted the prison sentences of two former U.S. Border Patrol agents whose convictions for shooting a Mexican drug dealer ignited fierce debate about illegal immigration.

Bush's decision to commute the sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who tried to cover up the shooting, was welcomed by both Republican and Democratic members of Congress. They had long argued that the agents were merely doing their jobs, defending the American border against criminals. They also maintained that the more than 10-year prison sentences the pair was given were too harsh.

Rancor over their convictions, sentencing and firings has simmered ever since the shooting occurred in 2005.

Solar Cycle 24
The religion of Global Warming continues to worship a false god. The media, the congress and so many others spread mis-truths, okay, lies about how man is causing "global warming." I don't know if they have looked lately but the earth is cooling. There has been a downward trend for some time.

Amazingly enough, the climate models that are used do not take into account the big glowing ball of nuclear reaction otherwise known as the sun as a variable. Interestingly enough there is a solar cycle that has been known about for over 150 years. The cycle is approximately eleven years long. Solar activity cycles up, then it cycles down. We happen to be in the bottom of a trough at the end of solar cycle 23.

As it turns out, scientists have been moving the beginning of Solar Cycle 24 out for some time. This raises an interesting question, are we in the beginning of a mini-ice age? And, why haven't the main stream idiots been reporting on this?

Spend some time investigating it for yourself.

The Liberal Turn
Barack Hussein Obama has is truly coming out from left field. His choices for cabinet and other government positions shows he is not qualified to be President of the United States.

Secretary of Defense: Bill Gates. Keeping Gates on is the one sane decision Barack Hussein Obama has made. However, I fear this will merely be a transitional appointment,

Secretary of State: Hillary Clinton. Need I say any more? Being a hostess at state functions and touring with her daughter does not a chief diplomat make.

Commerce Secretary: Bill Richardson. Has already withdrawn his name from consideration because of ongoing ethics charges and investigation.

Secretary of Homeland Security: Janet Napolitano. She is pro-imigration and opposes the border fence.

CIA Director: Leon Panetta. Huh? He has absolutely no experience. This position requires a professional. Barack Hussein Obama is definitely gutting this agency.

Treasury Secretary: Timothy Geithner. What a maroon. He either intentionally broke the law and did not pay taxes for several years as well as employing an illegal alien. Or, as he stated he simply over looked the payments and thus is completely unqualified to oversee the U.S. Treasury as he cannot oversee his own finances. So which is it?

Side note: I am completely disappointed with Senator Orrin Hatch (R)-Utah, as he stated he would support Timothy Geithner's appointment. Read the WSJ Online article here.

Secretary of Health and Human Services: Tom Daschle. A former senator who blocked most pro-life bills.

Energy Secretary: Steven Chu. Positives, He's a smart guy that is in charge of L.B.N.L. and he is for using nuclear energy. Negatives, he is on the Al Gore bandwagon of climate change. Additionally, most academics do not have common sense.

I'm tired of typing about what is going to be a very left cabinet. Be ready, the country is going to change.

Treason by the LA Times ?
Paul Watson of the LA Times has got to be bordering on treason. He has embedded himself with the Taliban and traveled with them across the Afghan countryside avoiding ISAF troops. Can you imagine anyone embedding with Nazi or Japanese troops during World War 2 to report their side of the events?

Watson mentions:
Some Taliban commanders considered The Times' request for safe passage into their territory, only to reject a visit as too risky. But the Ghazni Talibs, eager to show the extent of their control, finally agreed.
Watson admits to being a propagandist for the Taliban. An act of Treason? Watson goes on.
Grinning with contempt at a convoy of Polish troops trying to plow its way through traffic the other day, three Taliban fighters with guns and long knives concealed under their heavy woolen cloaks calmly eased into the other lane and beat the jam.
After a back road rendezvous, the Talibs' van headed for the two-lane highway that links Afghanistan's two biggest cities, Kabul and Kandahar. Our driver paused a minute to let a convoy of Polish troops pass in Humvees.

Soldiers swiveling in turrets scanned us through their gun sights, but the troops kept moving slowly northeast to the relative safety of the city. We headed in the opposite direction, toward Qarabagh district, notorious for kidnappers.
Sadly, I don't think anyone will be tried for treason during the Obama administration. After all, no one was tried for treason during the Bush administration either despite the release of secret information by the New York Times.

Freedom of the Seas (Part 2)
In follow up to the previous article on Freedom of the Seas it seems the naval presence we are establishing in the Gulf of Aden with CTF-151 will strictly be a deterrence force.

As I said before, boarding operations are very difficult and left to highly trained teams. The Navy established several of these VBSS III board, search and seizure teams. They are the perfect tool should a ship be captured by pirates.

The Navy Times has reported the following:
The units — seven highly trained visit, board, search and seizure teams adept at dropping onto the decks of noncompliant, fast-moving ships from above — are no longer needed. And it’s unclear what the Navy will eventually do with the 24-member teams.

“There are currently no specific requirements for the [Maritime Expeditionary Security Force’s] VBSS Level III capability,” said Lt. Cmdr. Susan Henson, spokeswoman for the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, which oversees the units.
Holds the horses. Piracy is growing into such a concern that we establish a combined task force to counter piracy in the Gulf of Aden but we don’t have a need for boarding teams? Admittedly, if we are able to deter piracy there is not a need to board and seize vessels. That being said, it is unrealistic to think we can prevent all acts of piracy given the vast expanse of ocean to patrol.

This is very interesting. The question is, is this politics or is this out of sincere worry that major anti-piracy operations will get out of control and land us in a situation we do not want to be in? I have the feeling we are acting out of pressure to once again be the world's policeman.

Freedom of the Seas
If you plan to conduct operations on the open seas you better have a swimming qualification. What a bunch of maroons these pirates have turned out to be.
5 Pirates Drown with Ransom
Sirius Star supertanker freed after a two-month standoff
Mohamed Olad Hassan, Assciated Press
Sunday, January 11, 2009

MOGADISHU, Somalia | Five of the pirates who hijacked a Saudi supertanker drowned with their share of a $3 million ransom, a relative said Saturday, the day after a bundle of cash was apparently dropped by parachute onto the deck of the ship.
Read the Washington Time's article here.

Despite their lack of swimming skills, the pirates continue to be a serious threat and menace to commercial shipping around the horn of Africa and the Suez canal. Several nations including China have deployed anti-piracy units to the area. To give you an idea of how important this is, this is China's first blue-water operational deployment of this sort. Thursday, the United States announced the formation of Combined Task Force 151 specifically for counter-piracy operations.

Read the Department of the Navy release here.

It will be interesting to see what roll CTF-151 plays. Maritime security operations are difficult at best when one considers boarding requirement under peaceable situations let alone against a hostile force. Hostile boarding operations usually fall to the Navy Special Warfare forces (SEALs). Hopefully, the growing naval presence will act as a deterrence to the piracy around the Horn. However, it is unlikely to be a significant impact unless each nation is willing to act against the pirates which they have not been willing to do so thus far.

The major obstacle is what to do with the pirates once captured. 200 Years ago they would be hung on the spot. In this more "enlightened" (cough, cough) time we do not do that. We look to the UN for jurisdiction. Turning the pirates over to the Somali government will have no impact because there is no government to speak of. A lesson learned, the UN will not solve our problems so why turn our sovereignty over to them?

As a reminder, counter-piracy operations and protection of commercial shipping lanes, also known as freedom of the seas, were the first missions of the Continental Navy.

What about a Letter of Marque and Reprisal?

Why Citizen Sparta?
Sparta was known for being one of the greatest military forces in the world and it was commonly accepted that "one Spartan was worth several men of any other state." This is because the Spartans did not accept mediocrity.

The same is true for the United States, or at least it used to be. Unfortunately, the socialist masses who think “King George” (Obama now) should take care of their every need are taking over. I believe it is time to cull the weak and misguided within our government and society. Additionally, our way of life is threatened by the Islamo-Fascists who want to place us under “sharia law.” Their goal is for islam to be the only religion and government on the earth. Remember "all enemies, foreign and domestic?"

I say NO! It is our responsibility to stop the enemy at the gates of our Thermopylae and save the Constitution and the United States of America.

Enough said!
The End of a Class
There is nothing like a twenty-one gun salute when you are there live! I had the good fortune to observe one when Ronald Reagan was President and visited our carrier moored at pier 11 at Norfolk Naval Station. Oh, the good old days.

What a sense of pride it was to watch it again today when America’s newest aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush CVN-77, the final Nimitz class aircraft carrier, was commissioned at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. Her first Commanding Officer is Captain Kevin E. O'Flaherty a 1981 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Captain O'Flaherty was designated a Naval Aviator in 1983.

Construction of the tenth Nimitz-class ship took place at Northrop Grumman-Newport News, Va., starting with the ship's keel laying Sept. 6, 2003, and christening Oct. 7, 2006. George H. W. Bush towers 20 stories above the waterline, displaces approximately 95,000 tons of water, has a flight deck width of 252 feet, and at 1,092 feet long, is nearly as long as the Empire State Building is tall. This floating airfield has a flight deck that covers 4.5 acres. Bush's two nuclear reactors are capable of more than 20 years of continuous service without refueling, providing virtually unlimited range and endurance, and a top speed in excess of 30 knots. The carrier includes several features differentiating it from other Nimitz class carriers. Read here for more detail.

While I do not support the naming of any capital vessel after a living person, naming the newest carrier in America’s arsenal after George H. W. Bush is far superior to that of William J. Clinton. Whatever you may think of George H. W. Bush, he is a hero who served his country without second thought during World War 2. He was the youngest Naval Aviator serving in Navy at that time and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

God bless and protect the USS George H. W. Bush all the men and women who will serve on her. Fair winds and following seas.

Did Atlas Shrug?
If you have never read Atlas Shrugged you should. Stephen Moore at the Wall Street Journal has written a great piece, From Fiction to Fact in 52 Years, detailing the mistakes that continue to be made by the inept leaders of our country. Ayn Rand's book should be required reading for every member of Congress and the Obama administration. Question is, can they read, and will they comprehend what they are reading. Ayn Rand may not have got it right on religion, but she sure did have great forsight on the how the government can over step its' responsibilities and cause the economic destruction of our country. All enemies, foreign and domestic ring a bell?

Atlas Shrugged ends with the following:

... when the economy has been rendered comatose by all the great economic minds in Washington. Finally, and out of desperation, the politicians come to the heroic businessman John Galt (who has resisted their assault on capitalism) and beg him to help them get the economy back on track. The discussion sounds much like what would happen today:

Galt: "You want me to be Economic Dictator?"

Mr. Thompson: "Yes!"

"And you'll obey any order I give?"

"Implicitly!"

"Then start by abolishing all income taxes."

"Oh no!" screamed Mr. Thompson, leaping to his feet. "We couldn't do that . . . How would we pay government employees?"

"Fire your government employees."

"Oh, no!"

Will we ever learn to keep the government from meddling with the free market?

Are you a Sheep Dog?
When my son graduated from Infantry OSUT at Ft. Benning last year his Battalion Commander gave the graduation speech and talked about Sheep Dogs. He gave an eloquent speech that was inspiring to all and made me reflect upon our need for Sheep Dogs.

The guys at Blackfive re-posted more information on where the topic came from.

I Only Hang With Sheepdogs

On Sheep, Sheepdogs, and Wolves

By Dave Grossman

One Vietnam veteran, an old retired colonel, once said this to me: "Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident." This is true. Remember, the murder rate is six per 100,000 per year, and the aggravated assault rate is four per 1,000 per year. What this means is that the vast majority of Americans are not inclined to hurt one another.

Some estimates say that two million Americans are victims of violent crimes every year, a tragic, staggering number, perhaps an all-time record rate of violent crime. But there are almost 300 million Americans, which means that the odds of being a victim of violent crime is considerably less than one in a hundred on any given year. Furthermore, since many violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders, the actual number of violent citizens is considerably less than two million.

Thus there is a paradox, and we must grasp both ends of the situation: We may well be in the most violent times in history, but violence is still remarkably rare. This is because most citizens are kind, decent people who are not capable of hurting each other, except by accident or under extreme provocation. They are sheep.

I mean nothing negative by calling them sheep. To me it is like the pretty, blue robin's egg. Inside it is soft and gooey but someday it will grow into something wonderful. But the egg cannot survive without its hard blue shell. Police officers, soldiers, and other warriors are like that shell, and someday the civilization they protect will grow into something wonderful. For now, though, they need warriors to protect them from the predators.

"Then there are the wolves," the old war veteran said, "and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy." Do you believe there are wolves out there that will feed on the flock without mercy? You better believe it. There are evil men in this world and they are capable of evil deeds. The moment you forget that or pretend it is not so, you become a sheep. There is no safety in denial.

"Then there are sheepdogs," he went on, "and I'm a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf."...
